technology in nursing

I strongly agree that new technology can be very helpful for health care professionals on everyday bases. Particularly in busy environments like hospitals, when flow of patient is extremely high. Computer programs specially designed to help health care professionals to do their work. By only one click nurse can check when new patient is coming on the floor and what diagnosis he has. If nurse is not sure what particular diagnosis is, she or he can go explore it on the internet. Moreover, hospitals use intranet, kind of internal internet, where nurses have access to policies and procedures. Furthermore, in the intranet nurses can communicate through e-mail with the clinical educator or with each other. These are reasons why technology is beneficial for health care professionals.

hand washing

Ontario Hospital Association started campaign on October 21st that should help to prevent the spreading of infections, like MRSA and C.diff. In particular C.diff, which lead to diarrhea and could be fatal. Concerns rose regarding insufficient hand washing by nurses, physicians and every one of allied health. Increased number of MRSA cases in the hospital forced infection prevention control initiate hand washing program 8 weeks ago at North York general Hospital. As a stuff nurse I am a part of this initiative. At the first week of project the washing rate was only 40%, now it’s constantly above 80%. Hand washing is essential for the prevention spreading of infections, and I thing this plan will help to decrease number of communicable diseases in the hospital.

women's health

Although women are highly knowledgeable about health and health protection, we are mostly concerned not about our own health but the health of our families. We have a lot of responsibilities often working both full time at work and at home. Activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, doing home work with children might make us re prioritize our needs. Improper diet, since we habitually eat leftovers and the lack of time for the gym, might contribute to weight problems. Constant stress persists, as a result of trying to accomplish multiple things at once. As nurses we know the consequences of this life style such as heart attack, diabetes and high blood pressure. Therefore, we need to stop and think about our own health, since it is very important for us to maintain healthy lives for ourselves and our families.

Big change for RPN

Many things have changed on the surgical floor at North York General Hospital, over past several months. It’s mostly in relation to nursing care and interdisciplinary practices. The latest change provided RPN with grater autonomy. During six month trial RPNs are certified to flush saline lock and administering IV antibiotics and antiemetics. This will help nurses to improve patient care, for the reason that RPN no longer has to look for RN for administration of medications. Thus, drug can be given without delay and with grater outcomes. As a result, patient healing process and happiness increased.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone, my name is Olga and I am a RPN. Moreover ,I am a student, a mother, and a wife with a lot of responsibilities. I am trying hard to keep up with study, work and family. That why I created my blog “2be a nurse”. Please, write and share you experiences.
When I got accepted to the RN program I was very excited for short period of time. Now I feel mix of the emotion.I complitly disappointed and distressed because I truly think that it is unfair for RPN do another 3 years, it is too long and some of the courses we already did in college. For example psychology course, I did not even open my book and wrote my exam very good. I hope, I’ll feel better after first semester is finished.
Guys, please, cheer me up. Share your feelings and experiences.
